Counseling FAQs

  • At this time, we only offer telehealth (virtual) individual, family, and group counseling services to South Carolina Residents. In the near future, we will offer in-person sessions.

  • It's normal to be nervous about counseling. With us, there's no obligation to continue if it doesn't feel right. We welcome open conversations and strive for a genuine connection. To get started, make an appointment for a consultation. This usually takes 1.5 hours and is an informal conversation where we learn about each other and how we can best work together. At the end of your consultation, we will schedule your first session. After you’ve completed three sessions, you can schedule a 15-minute or 30-minute phone call session should you ever need to. As a self-pay client, you can schedule sessions as frequently as needed; although we recommend weekly, every other week, or monthly.

  • We do not accept insurance at this time, but will in the future. We are currently considered out-of-network. However, we can provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance. Your insurance may reimburse you, but you will need to confirm with your insurance company.

  • When you schedule an appointment (individual, family, or group), you receive a link for your session. This link is within a secured, confidential software system that is designed for counseling. Sessions are never recorded. Telehealth sessions (55 minutes) are designed for your convenience so that you can attend from anywhere as long as you have a secure internet connection or cell service.

  • You can schedule by phone (864-301-1808), by text (864-301-1808), or by email (jill@jlmchugh.com). Please notes that if we do not answer when you call, please leave a detailed message and we will call you back asap. If we do not answer we are in a session with another client or it is after hours.

  • Yes! We would love to work together with you and your family. During family counseling, we may see everyone during one session and sometimes we may only work with one person. We remain neutral and welcoming to everyone that is participating in counseling so that there are no alliances or prejudiced judgements.

  • Rates vary with each Therapist. You can find their rates within their bios. We accept all major credit cards and payment is completed online at the time of appointment.

  • While we wish we had a concrete answer for this question, there is no magical number of sessions that we can tell you. Counseling is a journey and one person’s journey may take longer than another’s. Counseling is highly effective when clients are 100% open to putting in the work; therefore, only you can determine how long you need to receive counseling services. We are committed to grow and learn with you through the entire process.
